Well Socialized? No, Well Traumatized

I cringe just a little when I hear, "I take my dog to the dog park." I am seeing problems with dogs that frequently go to day care also. These may not be such great options.

Take a Moment

Think back to where you started, think about all the small steps forward your dog has made....plan your next training session, now love on your dog!

Punishment Versus Reward Training in dogs using smarties and a shock collar on humans

This is an EXCELLENT video to show you the difference in positive and negative training and how it effects the PEOPLE being trained. Watch the difference how one person wants to offer behavior and one person begins to hesitate and even sweat! These people know what is happening buy imagine a dog that does not understand what is bringing the punishment. Excellent video to share.

Remember Rolo and all his hard work with his mat, obedience and recalls? This big boy is nearly all grown up now and started his training for his Therapy Dog Certification today!

A special shout out to Maverick today! His family has been helping him relax around other dogs for a couple of months now. The last 3 weeks he has been able to attend our Taming the Wild Side Walks and today was his first big hike with other dogs! Hats off to you for your commitment to training!

Why do all of our family dog classes advance to working at parks, restaurants, shopping centers? We teach you how to help your dog generalize their training in many different areas working up to higher distraction areas. Along with that, teaching all the different kinds of reinforcement you can use besides treats to help your dog realize how valuable you are to him, causing him to want to work for you! If you don't generalize, your dog may not be properly trained!
