Loose Leash Walking with Banjo!

Many of you have asked how Banjo's training is going. I have spent the last several weeks walking him in the neighorhood and parks where he can handle the distractions. He has not been put into situations where he was over his threshold. Well today I took him to a set of trails where he has never walked before with a small group of dogs that he is familiar with. It was the first walk I could relax and enjoy with him. His pulling was minimal and he came back to heel position anytime I slowed. We passed barking dogs behind a fence and played the "Look at that" game. He looked at the dogs, did not pull towards them and checked back in with me, we played this game until we passed them. He played in a waterfall, he was told to sit and then released to go sniff, which is his favorite game and I guarantee because of the reward of sniffing, he has the best sit ever! He saw goats and instead of becoming out of control he offered a sit. Sit has become his way of asking if he can go and see or sniff something. It has almost stopped his lunging completely at distractions. Hats off to Banjo today and the dogs that walked with him, they were very patient!! I will keep you updated, we still have many months of training ahead!

NEW CLASS: Loose Leash Walking with Distractions

This class will begin teaching you and your dog where heel position is through the use of platform and recall games! You will also learn techniques to teach your dog not to pull and to understand that being in heel position is very valuable to them! You will learn where the reward zone is and how to use it and what walking equipment to use and what equipment to stay away from! When the foundation is set we will begin to add low level distractions. We will work inside the facility and when weather permits we will do some work outside. This is not a reactive dog class, if your dog has issues with other dogs or with his leash, please contact me about private sessions and the possibility of acclimating into a class at a later date.

Super Seminars? We Got 'Em!!

Mark your calendar and save the date!  Come join us for a day of information and learning November 12th! We will start the day with a mini seminar and workshop on loose leash walking techniques. Learn how to help your dog use self control and to stop pulling while walking without aversive tools such as prongs and choke collars. Learn about the positive tools that are available and the techniques to use with them without leash jerks. This mini seminar will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

If you have registered for both seminars, we will take an hour break for lunch following our first seminar - pizza and drinks will be provided.

The afternoon will end with a mini seminar on crate games. Help your dog learn to love his crate! No more bolting out of the crate or barking while in the crate. These games will help with self control and motivation. You will need to bring a wire crate with a door that swings open to the right or left. (If you do not have a wire crate, please email us, we may have an extra one!) This mini seminar will be from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

You may register for one or both seminars. Registration for one seminar is $45.00; registration for both seminars is $80.00 and lunch will be provided.
