Weekly Taming Tip

Each week we'll share a Taming Tip for you, your family and your friends to do with your dog(s)! These tips will help teach your dog real world manners in a fun way. Leave us a comment and tell us how it went!

Taming Tip #21:

Having trouble teaching heel? This week keep several treats in your pocket, call your dog to you and as he is coming, turn your back to him, drop your left hand down by your side with a treat in it and as your dog comes to your side to get the treat, pull your hand forward a little so that his shoulder lines up with your knee area.  Say the word "heel" then click and treat! Be sure to have your hand by your side before your dog gets there - this will stop him from swinging out. Practice 5 times a day and by the end of the week, you should be able to say heel and your dog will begin to move into position. Walk your dog on the right side? Repeat as above, but call your dog to your right side and use the cue "side".  Have fun!
