Across a Threshold

We teach and talk about thresholds all the time to help our dogs with calm behaviors. It is one of the most important training tools you will learn to use. I repeat in classes..."Remember, distance is your best friend!" or "Keep your dog in low level distraction environments and build up to higher distraction environments." An example, our dog Banjo could not walk in parks, he did better in our neighborhood. We started walking only up and down our street! ONE YEAR later he made the entire neighborhood! 18 months of training in the neighborhood he finally walked in parks! For some dogs this is training in real time, no quick fixes. We worked with a lot of thresholds. Here is a nice article about thresholds and how they impact your dog!
